Early Haze Reviews

  • IGN (45/100) – “While their previous work was quite excellent, Haze is anything but, coming across as a middling, generic first-person shooter with bland visuals, a weak plot and laughable characters.”
  • GamersHell (65/100) – “Haze is still sitting in the wake of Call of Duty 4, and falls into that category of being just another FPS. The game tries to include different content with Nectar abilities and rebel dynamics, but a confused story, lacking gameplay elements and technical bugs bog the game down from being a stellar PS3 exclusive.”
  • The A.V. Club (C+) – “More narratively cohesive than the Halo trilogy, but less inventive and compelling than Resistance: Fall Of Man … too bad it’s paired with one of the more pedestrian FPS games to come along in recent years.”

These early results are certainly bad for a PS3 game.  Seeing these, I have been put off by the terrible ratings!  What about you?

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Review

2007 was a terrible year for PS3 owners, it was packed with major delays and Sony lost some big and small exclusives.  With every dissapointment PS3 owners including me have looked forward to the big titles, one of them being Uncharted Drake’s Fortune.  It is so good, along with Call of Duty 4, might have saved the PS3 in 2007.  You may be thinking the screenchots are beautiful but does the game have the same attractiveness?  Well, yes it does!  It is easily the most beautiful game on the PS3 at the moment and the gameplay isn’t that bad either!

Naughty Dog, the game’s developer, was expected the bring a classic to the table with the possibility of a sequel.  Well, I hope they create one, along with Call of Duty 4 it has the be the one of the must buys for PS3 owners!

In the game, you play as Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter, who has to fight pirates, swing from wall to wall and solve puzzles.  The game takes about 8 hours to complete on the first time around but it does have the best replay value of all the games on the PS3.  The second time around you will be able to gain awards and incentives like unlimited ammo.  Another great part of the game is like in COD 4 your teamates will help you out, shooting the bad guys and removing a  gernade from your feet.  However, towards the end of the game I was starting to get sick of the pirates as the game has the same format until the end, with one wave of pirates then you get to reload.  This carrys on until the pirates finish coming.  This happens until the end when the game throws a curveball at you.  Will you survive it or will you fail and die?

To sum it all up, Uncharted Drake’s Fortune has to be a must buy.  It has everything, a great soundtrack, beautiful graphics and awesome gameplay.  It is time to empty your pockets and clean the house until you find the spare money to buy this game!  Serriously, it is that good, that it is worth it even if it takes all day to find the money!

Score: 9.4

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Review

When it was announced that Call of Duty 4 would leave its WW2 roots and move to the modern era people were worries about what would become of the series. However, IW exceeded expectations in their latest since COD2.  The new gameplay is intense and gripping with smarter enemies and all new elements or warfare including the deadly .50 cal sniper.  All this combines for you begging for more and more.

Infinity Ward were the developer that created the great Normandy Beach in  COD2 and so it was thought that if was a huge gamble leaving the comfort zones of WW2 to move onto the current era.  However, this gamble hasn’t just payed off, it has become arguably the BEST shooter on the PS3.  It has set a new standard for all of the new FPS shooter games on PS3!  The weapons are fantastic, with a AC-130 Gunship to command during one mission to the AK-47 in another!

During the game, you switch from an SAS soldier to the command of a US Marine soldier.  Your goal is to stop Mid-Eastern terrorists stop the almost certain launch of stolen Russian Nukes.  The controls are very easy to pick up if you have played any other COD before, so you can access the game straight away!

However, there is one major problem, the single player mode is very short taking me only 7 hours to complete on veteran.  So, if you can’t access the online mode this is definitely a title to rent and not buy but on the other hand if you have access the the Playstation network it is a must buy!  The online mode is the most addicting that I have ever played, it is so enjoyable that it worth missing your team’s game on TV so your can get your own back on that camper who has killed you 4 times in a row.

So there is no stopping you! Get off you butt and go down to your local shop and pick up a copy now!  That’s an order soldier!
